What follows is double agents, triple-crosses, a legendary fight on top of the cable car and more explosions than seems reasonable. Adapted from Alistair MacLean's script and novel, it's a film that still turns up on British TV every Christmas.

The real Schloss Adler is Burg Hohenwerfen, a medieval fortress high above the Salzach valley near Salzburg in Austria, and the castle along with the cable car locations can still be visited today.
